Comm. module DSE Modbus to LoRaWAN

DS Energy Modbus to LoRaWAN gateway for remote reading of RS485 Modbus meters and industrial equipment.

The gateway transfers Modbus data over LoRaWAN and supports remote configuration through LoRaWAN downlink.

  • RS485 Modbus interface
  • EU868 or US915 LoRaWAN
  • 5 min to 24 h transmission interval
  • 24 VDC or 230 VAC supply
  • DIN rail mounting

Modbus to LoRaWAN gateway for remote meter reading

The Modbus - LoRaWAN gateway is a DS Energy communication gateway designed to connect Modbus devices to a LoRaWAN network. It reads data from connected Modbus equipment through RS485 and transmits the selected data wirelessly via LoRaWAN to a LoRaWAN gateway, which can forward the information to the relevant server or DS Energy backend.

The gateway is particularly suitable for remote reading of electricity meters, water meters, gas meters and other energy meters with a Modbus interface. Industrial devices such as PLCs can also be connected for remote reading or configuration. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Remote Modbus communication via LoRaWAN

The module supports configuration through LoRaWAN downlink, making it possible to change communication settings remotely. The RS485 interface uses GND, A- and B+ connections and is Modbus compatible.

Wireless communication is available for EU868 or US915 LoRaWAN networks, and the transmission interval can be configured from 5 minutes to 24 hours. The antenna connection uses an SMA-RP female connector and can also be used with an extension cable for an external antenna. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1} :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

For a complete LoRaWAN installation, the device communicates through a compatible LoRaWAN gateway and network infrastructure.

Installation and connection

Mount the gateway on a DIN rail and connect the Modbus device to the RS485 terminals using GND, A- and B+. Supply the gateway using the correct terminals for either 24 VDC or 230 VAC. The 24 VDC terminals must never be connected to 230 VAC, as this will damage the module. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

Configure the LoRaWAN network settings and required transmission interval, then connect the device to the relevant LoRaWAN network and receiving platform. Installation should be carried out according to the supplied datasheet and applicable electrical safety requirements.
